|CAREWORKS OPENING WALK-IN CLINIC IN SCRANTON|
SCRANTON, Pa. – A new walk-in clinic in Scranton will soon open its doors, offering patients shorter wait times while relieving high volumes in local emergency rooms. In addition, non-insured patients seeking treatment will also benefit from its affordable care.
Geisinger Careworks Walk-In Clinic – a partnership between Careworks Convenient Healthcare and Geisinger Health System – will open a walk-in clinic in Scranton on December 1. The facility, located at 3 West Olive St., will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 am to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday. The new clinic will employ seven, full-time medical professionals who will treat acute illnesses and minor injuries.
“Many people face the dilemma of waiting overnight to see a family physician or visiting an emergency room,” said Ken Berndt, CEO, Careworks. “Opening urgent care clinics allows for another treatment alternative which can also provide a financial benefit by avoiding co-pays and other fees associated with emergency room visits.”
Walk-in clinics treat minor health problems such as allergies, asthma, infections, colds, cuts, fevers and sprains. Patients visiting Geisinger Careworks Walk-In Clinic in Scranton will have access to services including immunizations, labs, X-rays, EKG and IV therapy while, in some cases, paying significantly less out of pocket.
Patients lacking insurance will also benefit from the clinic’s $69 charge for all basic clinical services with an additional cost for lab and X-ray services, if required.
“This Geisinger Careworks Walk-In Clinic is the first Careworks clinic within the city of Scranton, and it is our goal that it will provide a convenient patient experience for all Lackawanna County residents,” said Berndt. “Whether a new or existing Geisinger patient, by accepting walk-ins well beyond normal office hours, it is our hope that this Scranton clinic will rival the positive reception experienced by Geisinger Careworks After-Hours clinics in other areas around northeastern and central Pennsylvania.”
Geisinger Careworks Walk-In Clinic in Scranton will mark the county’s second Careworks facility, joining the Clarks Summit clinic at 1020 Northern Blvd. in the Weis Market. It is also the latest of Careworks’ commitment to opening 20 to 25 clinics throughout the Geisinger service area within the next two years.
In Luzerne County, Geisinger operates urgent care clinics at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre’s Adult and Pediatric Urgent Care and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center along with Geisinger Careworks After Hours clinics in Mountain Top and Dallas.
